Mandate of the new CIVITAS Policy Advisory Committee begins
The PAC is a group of elected political representatives from the CIVITAS community that convenes regularly to share experiences in sustainable urban mobility policy and to interact with the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Mobility and Transport (DG MOVE).
The meeting saw the mandate of the 2018-2020 Political Advisory Committee end, with the members of the new Policy Advisory Committee for the mandate 2020-2022 officially welcomed. The new Chair and Vice-Chair for this mandate were also elected.
The 15 members of the new PAC were selected from CIVITAS member cities covering nine EU Member States. Koen Kennis, Vice-Mayor of Antwerp (Belgium), was appointed as new PAC Chair, whilst Grigoris Konstantellos, Mayor of Vari Voula Vouliagmeni (Greece), was appointed Vice-Chair.
Koen Kennis highlighted that as PAC Chair he intended to “represent local authorities at the highest level in Europe, to discuss priorities and give policy advice in the field of mobility”.
The PAC will be involved in a wide variety of activities, including:
- Provide policy advisory and recommendations to DG MOVE on issues related to urban mobility, reinforcing, at the same time, the liaison between DG MOVE and the CIVITAS network of cities.
- Act as sustainable mobility advocates and ambassadors of relevant European policies and measures.
- Inform policymakers in the area of urban mobility and therefore boost the uptake and implementation of smart and sustainable transport measures.
